AI War 2 is designed to be both approachable and in-depth. In early 2021, significant changes were implemented to make the midgame simpler for new players to enter, as well as a more forgiving Science system and a significantly more potent Hacking system. Sometimes when a sequel says it’s “streamlined,” it can really mean “dumbed down.” And there are definitely fewer minute decisions to be made in certain areas: you don’t have to determine how to wash each individual plate since you have a dishwasher. And it’s fortunate that you do, because the rabbit hole of complex and perplexing possibilities extends as far as you desire.
If you want to play at a level close to Expert, you’ll need that extra mental capacity to plan your fleets, handle numerous fronts, juggle offence and defence, and adapt your empire design as the campaign progresses. If you like to play more casually, it is perfectly OK, and the game may be far more forgiving while still offering a variety of intriguing macro decisions.
There is too much information to memorise (albeit tooltips are constantly available), and there is always an unfamiliar element. Rapid clicking will not help. To win the AI War, you must improvise, adapt, and utilise your intelligence.
